Obituary for Suzuye Ann Kiyama

Suzuye (Suzie) Ann Kiyama (Murai) of San Diego, CA passed away in her home on Tuesday April 12, 2022. Her last days were spent peacefully with her family, and she left this world carrying the grace, compassion and strength with which she led her life and, in recent years, battled many health issues. Suzuye was born on May 3, 1935 in San Francisco, CA, the eldest of 5 children. She graduated from UC San Francisco School of Nursing in 1957, and married Glenn Kiyama in Feb, 1958. They raised their family in San Diego, where she was a homemaker for 18 years, before re-establishing her nursing career in 1976 and working until the age of 83. She was a devoted Catholic and most beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, great-aunt, and friend to so many throughout her life. She connected easily with people in all communities in which she was involved through her authenticity, positive spirit and natural charm.

She is survived by her husband, Glenn; children, Barbara (Ed), Patricia, Mary (Ken), Michael (Amy), and Christine (Joe); grandchildren, Kimberly (John), Michael, Maggie, Michaela, Natalie, Kiara, Ryan, James and Christopher; and great-grandchildren, Grayson and Cameron. She is predeceased by her brother Mike (Cheryl), and survived by her brothers Pete (Kazumi), Phill (Grace) and Rick (Susan).

A public visitation service will be on April 27, 2022 between 4-7pm.

Private funeral and burial services will be held for family members.

A public gratitude reception will be held on April 28, 2022 from 1-5pm, at the Marina Village Conference Center (Seaside Room). Words of gratitude will be at approximately 3pm. Please feel free to attend at any time.

Please note that the state of CA recommends masking up when indoors. The reception venue is indoors, but is a large space with direct access to outdoors. We will have masks available to you, if preferred. However, your comfort is our top priority, and we ask that you do what is easiest for you and respect the choice of others. We will not be requiring masks.
