Bob, as he was affectionately known, was born on December 26, 1950 to Andrew and Birdie Wheelington in National City, CA. Bob passed away peacefully on December 23, 2019, with his family by his side after an illness at Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego, CA.
As a young boy, Bob’s family moved to El Cajon, CA where he grew up. As a boy he learned the value of hard work and carried that lesson throughout his lifetime. Bob first met his wife, Susan, in junior high. They attended different high schools but after getting his license to drive, they began dating and married in 1971. That was the beginning of a lifetime together.
Bob attended an apprenticeship in the Operating Engineers where he was educated in all aspects of repair and maintenance of heavy earthmoving equipment. Bob is best known in his community for the business he started from scratch that grew to be a huge success for over thirty years, B & B Heavy Equipment Sales & Rentals, Inc. Bob took pride in providing a fleet of heavy earthmoving equipment to meet the needs of the contractors who counted on B & B to supply equipment for their jobs that reshaped the landscape of Southern California. Bob never forgot the loyal employees who were the backbone of his success and remained friends long after retirement.
Bob enjoyed boating, fishing, dune buggies, road trips, Tahoe, building hotrods, car shows with friends, rides to the mountains, stock and sprint car races, creating lovely things for Susan, Christmas, football, pool parties, barbecues, landscaping, gardening, difficult projects done perfectly and family gatherings.
Bob loved life and people, especially his children and grandchildren. Bob is survived by his wife, Susan M. (Vikander) Wheelington, his son’s; Robert A. Wheelington II and Andrew D. Wheelington, and his adored grandchildren; Sean Wheelington, Taylor Wheelington, Tristan Wheelington and Trinity Wheelington.
