VERTEX

Reeya was one of the most compassionate, hardworking, and dedicated
scientists to work at Vertex Pharmaceuticals. Her skills as a scientist were
unique and one of a kind; her dedication to our mission was unparalleled.
While Reeya is no longer with us, the impact of her talents will live on at
Vertex for decades to come and will help create a brighter future for people
around the world.
Reeya was and will continue to be an inspiration to everyone who ever had
the privilege to meet her, to work with her, to know her. Not only was Reeya
an amazing scientist, but she was an amazing person, always putting the
needs other before her own. Reeya gave so much to everyone who knew her
while asking for so little in return. With the passing of Reeya, we lost a
colleague, a co-worker, a teacher, a friend, a sister. We lost our Rock, our
Reeya.
-Timothy Neuberger, Ph.D.
Research Fellow I

Reeya taught me with her actions. She was kind, so kind. And had a genuine
desire to serve. She would go above and beyond to help everyone. She had
joy in doing so! What an example for all of us!
Reeya was extremely talented. She dissected tissues to perfection, every
time. Her impeccable work and dedication enabled so many experiments and
advanced several programs here at Vertex!
I feel blessed to have worked with Reeya. She blessed my life in many ways. I
truly enjoyed every minute of our long days in that dissection room. My heart
is broken, it hurts so deep to see her sudden departure from this world.
Reeya will be missed. Rest in peace, dear Reeya.
-Michelle Vasconcelos
Biomarkers Senior Research Scientist

Reeya was the most special person and I am heart broken at her loss. She was not
only a dedicated scientist with the most masterful of hands, but she was also sweet,
caring, calming, wise and generous. She was generous with her time which is the
most precious of gifts. She had an uncanny ability to know when others needed
support and was always the first one there to lend a hand, a shoulder, or an ear.
Reeya made dissection look so easy, but what she could do was a true art. She was
so focused and patient and it was a true pleasure to have witnessed a master at
work. She made a huge impact on many areas of research, producing high quality
cells and tissues for several projects. I only wish I could have had more time with
her. Vertex and the planet is a much sadder place without the beautiful Reeya.
-Sarah Fox-Greer
Principal Research Scientist

Reeya was the most compassionate, hard working and dedicated scientists.
She was an inspiration to everybody who ever had the privilege to meet and
work with her.”
Branka Mitrovic, Senior Director

“On my first day at Vertex, I was introduced to Reeya, and my first impression
of her was that she was a very quiet and reserved person. I wasn’t sure if we
would be able to get along well. But that impression had quickly changed
when we had the opportunity to work very closely together during our tissue
dissection sessions. Professionally, Reeya was meticulous and patient and
extremely skillful. Everything had to be done to perfection, and she held a very
high standard of quality for everyone to follow. Thanks to her expertise, we
were able to advance our project to the next level, generating important
results that had never been accomplished before. At a personal level, Reeya
had always gone above and beyond, offering me help whenever she had
extra time. On a few occasions when I had to stay very late at night to process
cells, Reeya had always stayed back with me even though her work for the
day had completed, making sure I wouldn’t be in the lab alone and that I could
finish faster. I had never heard her complain once about work, even though I
knew there were days she had to put in very long hours. She’d provided me
with emotional support, a listening ear, and wise advice when things got a little
tough at work. During the past year that I’ve got the privilege to work with her,
I’ve always considered her a talented colleague, a sweet friend, a caring

sister, and one of the best persons I’ve ever had the honor to cross path with.
She’ll always be in my heart!
Rest in peace, Reeya. And trust that we will continue to carry your torch and
that your scientific contributions will make significant impact to patients’ lives.”
-Mien Nguyen, Senior Research Scientist

When asked, what would Reeya say right now at this moment? All I thought
about was how she would still put others needs before her own. I know she
would ask about how I’m doing and reassure me that everything will be okay.
Reeya was the type of person that would seep into your heart without even
trying, Im sure her curiosity and tranquility will continue to impact us all. There
was never a day that she wouldn’t ask how you were doing or how she could
help, and if you have had something to eat. She was the first friend I made
here at Vertex, I’m honored to say that she is the person I’ve learned the most
from. Reeya loved her family, dogs, colleagues and the color blue. Blue was
her thing, I remember how she told me one weekend she was going to dye
her hair blue and I didn’t believe her. Monday came and after that I couldn’t
imagine her without it.
I will miss you so much Reeya, there won’t be a day I come to work and not
miss weekend catch ups. Love you!
-Julio
Molecular & Cell Biology Research Associate

“Reeya was an exceptionally dedicated and talented researcher, tirelessly
working to dissect organs and generate precious tissue samples and primary
cells. Her contributions to Vertex have been invaluable and her humility and
kindness were second to none. Her loss is felt deeply by all of us, and the
results of her work will stay with us forever.”
Norman Sachs, Director

"There are no goodbyes for us. Wherever you are, you will always be in our
hearts."
Diego D'Astolfo

Reeya was one of my favorite people at Vertex. Her high quality of work and
dedication floored me from the time I met her. Her work was absolutely critical
to the work that I was doing, and she enabled some really great science to get
done. We would not have made as much progress without her commitment to
the work that she was doing. I loved getting to know her and a little about her
incredible story as I got to work with her. The way she carried herself and her
hard work will continue to inspire me as I continue the work that we were
doing here together. I will miss you, Reeya.
-Melissa Strong, Research Scientist

Reeya was one of the most dedicated scientists I have ever known. She was
also the most genuine and kind person I have met. She brought a positive
light to our team and she always helped anyone in need. I remember Reeya
staying late many times to help me and our teammates process cells even
when she had had an extremely long day. I will never forget her compassion
and dedication. She made us strive to be better scientists and people.
Rest in peace dear Reeya. We will always remember you and we will work
hard to carry your legacy and contributions to science.
- Carolina Herrera

"I remember Reeya's first day here at Vertex. She was so excited and
nervous. She immediately asked for my number because she did not know
anyone here. We became great friends from there. She is such an amazing
soul who made an impact on my life. She was a ray of sunshine for me
everyday because she cared for me from like no other. Reeya, you will be
missed and never forgotten. Rest In Peace sweet angel!
-Robin Stocking

Reeya was the first link in the chain between the people from whom we
receive tissues to the people who will receive our medicines in the future. Her
technical skill and dedication to her work was unparalleled. Reeya's work will

be felt for years to come by patients, and her warmth and caring will be
missed forever by all of us.
-Stuart Cahalan

Reeya, you always had a smile on your face no matter how the day went.
Rest peacefully.
Stella-Rita Ibeawuchi

Reeya was an exceptional kind person who devoted herself a lot for others. I
haven't known her for a long time, but I was able to tell her personality of
devotion when I worked with her. She was willing to sacrifice her time to do
whatever it was when she thought it would be complicated. She always said
"Don't worry about it." "I don't mind.". She was that simple but devoted and
kind.
I remember the conversation with her in December 2022. We have talked
about visiting home countries. She planned visiting her home country and I did
as well. We were whinning about the family issue that we had before or the
relationship with mom or other relatives. As an asian, we realized that we did
the same way to face to those topics and felt the similar cultural duty that we
could not escape from. Not the stressful things but the cute whinnigs to the
most loved people...
I will keep the memory of her, but I won't be sad too much.
She would not like me to be sad too much for her.
I wish her way to be in peace and fare ware. I am sure.
I appreciate your time to talk to me and joke with me. It was a fun.
Good-Bye and See you later Reeya!
-Jaewook Chung
Molecular & Cell Biology Research Scientist

Reeya was thoughtful and generous. Whenever I needed help with
something, I knew I could always count on her. I remember meeting Reeya for
the first time at a dissection lab when I first joined the team. Her jokes made
everyone laugh, and her smile lit up the room. She was an inspiration to us all,
and the memory of her courage, kind words, and constant compassion will
always be treasured among those who knew her. I wish If I could spend little
bit more time with her. Rest in peace.
~Byamba Enkhtuul

Reeya had a huge heart. She cared so much for everyone. I am lucky that I
had the privilege of knowing her. Reeya was kind, compassionate, funny,
brave, and just amazingly awesome. I have an immense amount of respect for
her work ethic. You could always count on Reeya. She was there for you
whenever you needed her. It didn’t matter if it was night, or weekend, or a
holiday, or if the world was ending. Reeya was there. It is immeasurably sad
that she is no longer with us.

I miss you so much, Reeya. You left a huge dark void. I wish you didn’t have
to go this early. You are a good friend!

Some of my first interactions with Reeya …

“Hello my name is Phachareeya Ratchada and I like to be called” “Reeya”
“I have a fulltime job at Vertex but I want to do more”
So, you have a full-time job, how can you work here also? “I am available from 1700 to 2400 every day
plus weekends”.
After several weeks Reeya told me “I want to tell you that I have a PHD in Chemical Engineering in
addition to the Masters Degree but I don’t like to tell people because they will think I’m an ass”. This just
accents her humbleness.

I first met Reeya in the parking lot of the Science Center on a rainy day. Which was her last day of work
at Anabios. I gave her my contact information and told her to contact me when she got settled.
She did
On her first day of work she began to demonstrate a work ethic which put us all in awe. Wanting to
know everything possible about the process and the requirements.
She brought to our company expertise in aseptic handling, and learned the operation calibration,
validation of laboratory testing and processing equipment such as; HPLC, LPC, Osmolarity, Endotoxin,
FTIR, Plate Count, Sterility.
Reeya Researched requirements on new processes, wrote vendor requirements, IOQ’s, SOP’s. She
would pick up loose ends requiring documentation or additional administration and just add them to her
job description.
With Reeya engaged there was no challenge I would not accept, because I knew when the going got
rough, she would show her true abilities.
The most conscientious person I have ever had the privilege of knowing and working with.
Any request I made she would first open her arms and joyfully accept a new challenge. Or just clap her
hands in anticipation of something new. The only thing which would upset her was if her work could not
be accomplished.
Everyone loved Reeya, she was engaging, warm and intellectual. There was no requirement too large or
final step that she would not want to do. Including the jobs no one else wanted to do.
Reeys would not leave until every detail was completed. She worked late nights (which became every
day) she worked every weekend Saturday and Sunday. Team player is such an understatement.
Reeya has left a vacuum which will never be filled, we will apply the essence of what she stood for in our
everyday life.
