Obituary for Long Nhu "Chris" Truong

Long Nhu “Chris” Truong died on Saturday, November 9, 2019 in La Jolla, CA at the age of 45. Chris leaves behind his wife of 16 years, Luane Reyes, and two daughters, Vienna (14) and Justine (12).
Chris was born in Saigon, Vietnam on September 28, 1974 as the youngest child of Lam Truong and Tho Pham. He was raised by his eldest sister and brother, uncle, and aunts after his mother died when he was six months old. In 1979, he emigrated to the United States and began his immersion into American culture and education. He attended Ashford Elementary School and Patrick Henry Middle School in Houston, TX and Pinole Valley High School in Pinole, CA. He entered the University of California, San Diego in 1993 where he met his wife and graduated in 1998 with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. He spent the last 10 of his 20+ years in the semiconductor industry as an engineer at NXP Semiconductor.
Chris was an avid sports and music fan who also loved adventure. He played tennis throughout his life and was a Houston Astros, Houston Rockets, and San Francisco 49ers fan. He attended many games and concerts with friends from all aspects of his life. His favorite concerts ranged from Green Day to U2 to John Williams. He enjoyed bodyboarding, snowboarding, and traveling with his family and friends. His biggest and most fulfilling adventure was being a dad to his two girls.
Chris was a devoted husband and father. His patience was never-ending and he was an equal partner in all things at home. He enjoyed spending time with Luane, Vienna, and Justine and experiencing whatever interested them, whether it was a night at the symphony with his wife or playing tea party with his girls. He tried every sport imaginable with his girls and coached the girls’ Notre Dame Academy soccer teams for many years. He was so proud of Vienna and Justine and loved every minute with them. He taught them to believe in themselves, to have faith, to treat others with compassion and respect, and to be the best version of themselves.
An aggressive and devastating gastrointestinal cancer sadly ended Chris’ life. He was brave and strong during the brief two months of treatment and suffering. He was thankful for all the prayers, love, and support from his family, friends, and colleagues and he fought to the very end, in his own words, “for you (Luane), for Vienna, for Justine”. On Saturday, November 9, 2019, at 1:05 pm, Chris passed to be with God his Heavenly Father and Savior Lord Jesus Christ surrounded in love by his wife, daughters, and close family and friends.
