Obituary for Linda Cook
Linda Cook was born on May 7, 1947 and passed into heaven on March 5, 2021. She is survived by her brother, 3 children, 11 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren (with 2 on the way!), and loving sons-in-law and daughter-in-law.
Linda was born in Oklahoma, moving to Los Angeles, CA shortly thereafter. She and her family stayed in LA until Linda was in Jr. High, when they moved to El Cajon, CA. She married David Allen Cook Sr. on June 25, 1966, having met while attending El Cajon Valley High School. They remained married until his death in September 2011. They had 4 children, Cathryn Marie, Kimberly Beth, David Allen, and Aaron Micah.
Linda was very involved in her children’s lives, being a room parent, sports team mom, and band parent. They also remember her singing them to sleep – most memorable being Scarlet Ribbons. Linda loved to play board games, cards, and jacks, and enjoyed doing puzzles. There are fond memories of sitting on the floor playing jacks (she’d beat us all), and doing 1000-2000 piece puzzles for hours.
She was an amazing seamstress, making everything from pajamas to prom dresses for family and friends. True to her married name, Linda was an amazing cook. Her children remember friends wanting to always eat at their house because they’d love the meals. She shared her love through the process of feeding others things they would love. One of her favorite hobbies was collecting cookbooks and trying new recipes, always altering them to taste even better. In fact, her potato salad is legendary at get-togethers.
Christmases, Easters, Thanksgiving, and birthdays were always a big deal to Linda. She made amazing treats, cakes, and meals as well as buying all the “just right” gifts to make everyone feel loved.
Disneyland was an annual family visit, and never got old. In fact, it was one of Linda’s and David’s favorite places on earth, and they had annual passes until moving to Montana. Growing up, her children remember the most wonderful family vacations Mom would plan – Grand Canyon, Vancouver Canada, Yellowstone National Park, Catalina Island, all the western states from California to Colorado and special places in between. The scenery was beautiful, but the memories were priceless.
In 2004 she and David moved to Montana for 9 years. After her husband’s and her youngest son’s passing, she moved with her daughter-in-law, Wendy Cook, back to El Cajon, CA. She remained living in east county to be with her loved ones here. Her children and grandchildren were her life.
She loved Jesus Christ and committed her life to serving him. So, we do not “mourn as those with no hope, for (we) believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with Him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are (passed away)… to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore, comfort one another with these words.” I Thessalonians 13-19.
