Obituary for Julia Ann Schumann

Born 05/12/1944 Passed 06/18/2021. Beloved wife of Richard J (Dick) Schumann Sr. for 52 years until his death on 06/05/2016. She is survived by her 3 children. Dr. Richard J. Schumann Jr, Mark E. Schumann Ann M Schumann. 2 grandchildren William P. Schumann and Caroline E. Schumann.

Born Julia Ann Bayles in Essex County, Maryland, then moved to Bradford County, MD very young and grew on a farm on Bradshaw Road, in Fallston County. She was the 4th of 8 children of Ernest Bayles and Mary Francis Bayles. She loved music and dancing even though lost most of hearing in her teens. She won a dance contest with brother Ernest Bayles Jr. in high school. She moved to San Diego her senior year in with family from Maryland to help with the poor health of her father, graduating from Crawford High School in 1961.

After graduating high school, she started out as a Medical Assistant for Dr. William T. Adams in a General Medicine Office. Then she entered Mercy Hospital Nursing training in the footsteps of her mother, Mary F. Bayles. She suspended training in her 2nd year to marry her true love Richard J. Schumann, Sr. She eventually finished her LVN degree graduation at City College and was Valedictorian of her Nursing Class. She continued her education to receive her Bachelor's degree in Nursing (RN) from California State Dominguez Hills. She worked for Kaiser Permanente Medical in the OB/Gyn-Infertility Division helping couples have children. She did this faithfully and with excellence for 35 years before retiring to spend her golden years with husband. She volunteered both at her church parishes and at the Food Bank with friends. She spent the final years of her married life as primary caretaker of her husband Richard. Another shining example to all of her selfless service to others. Through life, she remained active in personal life with her children, her faith with Catholic Church, and her friends.

After an acute illness forced her hospitalization in 2020, she was devastated to discover she had Stage IV Pancreatic Cancer. She bravely fought the disease through 2 rounds of chemotherapy, and the love and support of family and friends bombarding heaven with prayers on her behalf. In any event, she was at peace and ready to join the Lord if that was her fate. Tragically, she succumbed to this disease on June 18, 2021 peacefully at home surrounded by her family who loved her more than life itself. Her loss is immeasurable, and she will be in our hearts forever. We love you Mom!!!
