Obituary for Frances Victoria Colombo

Frances Victoria Colombo
September 22, 1940 – November 4, 2022

Frances Colombo, a longtime resident of El Cajon, CA passed away peacefully on 
November 4, 2022, at her home in Yuma, Arizona. She was surrounded by family and under the 
gentle care of Hospice. 
She was born in Valderice, Sicily, to parents Frank and Vita LaRussa and was the youngest of
three children. The family moved to San Diego in 1956, when she was 16 years old. She quickly
learned how to speak English and graduated from Crawford High School. Shortly after high
school she began working for Bank of America and retired from a career in banking after 35
years.
She loved cooking, knitting, playing bocce ball at the beach with her friends and family, and she
loved a competitive game of cards with her family and two grandchildren, Brianna and Aaron.
Monthly gatherings with friends at an Italian couples club was always a favorite pastime.  She
was a member of the Italian American Civic Organization, the El Cajon Elks Lodge and the Air
Force Sergeants Association. Her favorite holiday was Christmas Eve and she loved preparing a
traditional seafood dinner and baking her favorite Italian desserts, cannoli and pizzelle.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph Colombo, daughter Rosella Saucier and son-in-law
Shawn Saucier, son Joseph Colombo, grandson Aaron (Ashely) Colombo, granddaughter
Brianna Aplin, brother Dominic LaRussa and sister-in-law Maria Pia La Russa and their
daughter Mary Linda LaRussa, older sister Giovanna Navetta and her daughter Antonella
(Peppe) Pantaleo, and their children, Antonino and Rossella.
A Catholic mass will be held at 11:00am on November 14, 2022, at St. Therese Parish, 6400 St.
Therese Way, San Diego, CA 92120. Her final resting place will be at Greenwood Memorial
Park Mausoleum.
Frances suffered from many health conditions including heart disease, kidney disease and
diabetes, however she was also a breast cancer survivor. The family is requesting donations be
made to the American Cancer Society.
