Obituary for Eugene Luigi Antonio Rossi

Eugene Rossi - August 18, 1940 to May 17, 2022

Eugene was born to Josephine and Eugenio Rossi in Oakland, California. Eugene is preceded in death by his mother, father and brother.

Eugene was married to Adriana Rossi for almost 60 years. They had two children, Marina and Lorena and three grandchildren, Julian, Avalon and Moses. Together they built a successful food distribution business which they ran for almost 30 years. Gene as he was known, had a tremendous love of business and politics and family and would often enjoy conversations with acquaintances and friends. Gene was extremely well read and would consume multiple books a week. He was known for his friendly infectious laugh and social demeanor. He touched so many lives with his mentoring and life experiences that he would passionately share with those around him. He easily made friends and seemed to find connections with people he just met. He was a huge presence in any room and loved being the center of attention. He most enjoyed sitting at the head of the large dining room table with my mom beside him in their home in Long Beach, CA for family gatherings and holidays which was often. He loved good food (my mom is a great chef) and enjoyed traveling to Italy and actually remembered every meal and restaurant that he ever ate at!

He overcame many adversities losing his father at a very young age, he went to work in the produce market in Los Angeles and eventually learned to drive truck when he was just 15. He loved the produce market and the food business in Los Angeles and the friends he made there. He had MANY stories and would recount them often throughout his life. He played football in high school and worked at night to help support his mom and younger brother. He was proudly "the man of the house" at the age of 15. He didn't disappoint. He lived up to that huge responsibility as he did throughout his life. He was the best of what "old school" represents. He went on to continue his career in the food business in various capacities and truly loved the industry. He worked as a truck driver, salesman, marketing VP and eventually owner of his own food distribution company. He was a proud, strong, loyal man that will be missed by all those he touched especially his family. Life will not be the same without his laughter and huge personality. May he rest in heaven with his mother, father and brother.

Services will be held on Friday, June 10 at Mission San Luis Rey in Oceanside, CA at 1pm.
