Obituary for Christine Marie Cloutier

Christine Marie Cloutier, aged 54 passed away peacefully at home on September 28th following a valiant & graceful 2-year battle against Pancreatic Cancer.
Christine Olvera was born in Bellflower, California on August 27th, 1967 to Armand E. & Mary Olvera. Around the age of four, her family moved South San Diego eventually settling in Chula Vista where she spent her youth with her family including sisters Renee & Corinne. Christine attended Catholic Schools; St. Charles, St. Rose of Lima and Marian Catholic High School from where she graduated in 1985. Following high school, she traveled North and studied at UCLA graduating in 1989…she remained a proud Bruin to the end enjoying following the Bruins on the Gridiron & Hardcourt.
Soon after graduation she met and then married her husband Gerard in May of 1993. She quickly assimilated becoming a Marine Corps Wife, supporting other spouses during long deployments, and creating many new lifelong friendships along the way. Many of these friendships continue to this day with annual get togethers with this circle of friends to places like Coastal Washington, Santa Barbara, Southern Utah, Alaska, and Las Vegas (too many times to remember)!
In 1996 she and Gerard settled in Escondido where she would turn their house into a home over the next 25 years. That year she also embarked on a 25-year career in public education as an elementary school teacher at Westwood Elementary in Rancho Bernardo followed by a position as the English Language Learner Coordinator for the Poway Unified School District. Her career passion was caring for and nurturing students while holding them to high standards. She wanted them all to succeed in life!
She also loved spending time with her parents and immediate family. Several family vacations happened where Christine and Brother-in-Law Joe Huskey would lead the charge and spend hours upon hours of planning Cruises, Disney World Trips, Hawaiian Trips & Beach Camping Vacations. She would equally enjoy a quiet Sunday afternoon backyard barbeque with this same group.
Above all, her true passion was her family. Her two daughters, Reagan & Taylor were her pride and joy and she worked tirelessly to provide them with every opportunity to succeed. She made sure that her girls knew the value of hard work and always ensured that assignments were completed, commitments followed up on, and thank you notes were given to those who helped along the way. To the very end she supported and encouraged them to follow their dreams.
Christine was a force to be reckoned with and a light in this world to many but will be truly missed every day by husband Gerard, daughters Reagan & Taylor, parents Armand & Mary, her sisters and their husbands Renee & Joseph Huskey, Corinne & Robert Afanasewicz. She will also be missed greatly by her nieces and nephews, Jake & Illyanna Huskey, Haley (Huskey) & Dylan Todd, Lucy Afanasewicz, Gwen Afanasewicz, Aaron Rivard, Bryce Darnell, Victoria (Darnell) Heritage.
Christine requested that in lieu of flowers, donations could be made to the following:
• “St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital”
• “Helen Woodward Animal Center”
• “Dog is my Copilot” (In honor of her faithful dog “Winnie” who refused to leave her side for the last few weeks of
Christine’s beautiful life)
