Obituary for Carely "Tommie " Stewart

Carely “Tommie” Stewart, 74, of La Mesa, CA, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on Tuesday, June 30, 2020.

Born in May 1946, Grand Rapids, MI, she was the daughter of Leo and Evah Van Alstine. She grew up working on her family farm and moved to San Diego in May, 1969. In San Diego she worked at Camperland, the County of San Diego at the Sheriff’s Department, Registrar of Voters, Parks and Recreation, and the Public Administrators/Guardian. She was a bartender at the American Legion and was a member for over 20 years. After retiring from the County of San Diego she went on to work at Windmill Farms for the past 13 years.

She enjoyed traveling with friends, working in her garden, and dining out, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family. There wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do for her family. There is no way to describe the love, joy, and humor she brought to the people in her life. Anyone who knew her knew that she was a “tough old broad” with quick wit. She loved everything pink.

Surviving are her daughter, Carla and her husband, John, of San Diego; two grandchildren, Chad and Gavin of La Mesa, CA.

A Celebration of Life get together will be held at her home for family and friends on Sunday, August, 16, 2020 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Please contact her family for details.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Gary Senise Foundation for veterans, first responders, and their families. The address is PO Box 368, Woodland Hills, CA 91365.
